Privacy policy
Short version: your dreams stay on your iPhone. They leave it only when you tap a step that needs an outside service, and the app asks you first, once for each kind of step. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your dream entries, feelings and vividness, recordings, tellings, pictures, previews and movies.
- Words you have typed or spoken but not yet saved, kept as a draft until you save or discard them and forgotten after a week.
- The morning reminder, if you turn it on. It never mentions a dream.
- Backups. Your journal lives in Somni's own storage on your iPhone, so it is part of your iPhone's backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) if you use one. Apple holds that backup, not Somni, and restoring it on a new iPhone brings your journal back. Somni does not sync your journal between devices.
- Sleep from Apple Health, if you allow it. Somni only reads the night you ask it to place a dream beside, and only on your phone. It never writes to Apple Health and never sends sleep data anywhere.
- Speech. When you speak a dream, iOS turns it into text on your device where your language supports that. If it does not, iOS may use Apple's speech service, as it does for any app. The recording is kept on your phone.
What can leave your iPhone, and only after you agree
| Step | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| A fuller telling | The text of your entry, with the feeling and vividness if you set them. | Somni's server, which passes it to an AI text service and returns the result. Somni's server does not save it. |
| Pictures | A short description of each picture, written by the app. Not your entry. | Somni's server, which passes it to an AI image service. |
| A movie | Your saved pictures, one for each scene, and a short description of how the camera moves in that scene, written by the app. A flowing movie also sends the next scene's picture, so the clip can end on it. Not your entry. | Somni's server, which passes them to an AI video service. A picture already saved on your phone is placed in a temporary upload slot so the service can fetch it. |
| The free preview, and your voice under a movie | Nothing. Both are made on your phone, from your pictures and, if you choose, your own recording. The recording never leaves your phone for this. | No one. |
| Report a picture or movie | Which kind of result it is about (picture, movie or something else), the reason you pick, a note if you write one, and a reference number for the render. Never your dream, and nothing that identifies you or your account. | Somni's server, which keeps it in private storage so the result can be checked. Reports are anonymous and kept as long as needed to check the result. |
| Sharing a movie or saving to Photos | Only the video file you choose, and only where you choose to send it. | The app you pick, or your Photos library. |
Each service handles what it receives under its own terms. Somni uses Perplexity for the text step and Higgsfield for pictures and movies. Pictures and movies are made by AI, so they can be unexpected. What those terms say, as of 16 October 2026:
- Perplexity. Its API privacy documentation says it does not use content sent through its API to train its generative AI models. It keeps usage details such as request counts and timestamps, and some model providers may keep a request briefly.
- Higgsfield. Its privacy policy says it may use the prompts, images and results it receives to train and improve its AI models, that this cannot be undone for models already trained, and that it shares data with service providers, including AI and compute providers, and with advertising partners. Somni sends Higgsfield only a short scene description, or a scene picture with a camera note, and never your name, your account or your original entry. Because nothing it receives can be tied to you, Somni cannot find and remove it later. If you do not want a name or a private detail to reach it, leave it out of the dream before you make pictures.
Accounts and purchases
- An account is optional. You need one only for pictures and movies, because credits belong to the account, not the phone.
- Sign in with Apple creates the account. Somni's server, built on Supabase, stores your account identifier, the email address Apple provides (or Apple's private relay address if you choose to hide yours), and your credit balance and history. It does not store your dreams.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. RevenueCat processes purchase records so credits can be added to your account, using your account identifier. Somni never sees or stores a card number.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data and we share it only as described above. We do not build advertising profiles, track you across other apps or websites, or use advertising identifiers. We do not read your dreams. Somni does not interpret them, diagnose anything or give medical advice.
Your control
- Each outside step can be switched off any time in the You tab.
- Export my journal in the You tab makes a zip of every dream as text, with your pictures, movies and recordings. It is made on your phone and goes nowhere until you choose where to send it.
- Delete account in the You tab removes your account and credits from the server and clears the journal on your phone. Delete everything on this phone clears the journal and keeps the account.
- You can withdraw Health, microphone, speech, photo and notification access any time in iOS Settings.
- Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone.
Children
Somni is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
