Whimsy
Whimsy adds pixel cursors and animated trails to your Mac. Pick a theme from the menu bar and your pointer gets a matching cursor and a trail that follows it everywhere, from ghost arrows to hearts, paw prints and violet stardust. It lives in your menu bar and never gets in the way.
Free to download, with one optional $4.99 Pro purchase. No subscription. For Mac, macOS 14 or later. Version 1.2.

What you get
- Free: Retro Desktop, a crisp pixel pointer with ghost arrows that fade in hard steps
- Pro, one purchase: Cosmic Magic (a wand and fine violet stardust) and Cozy Seasons (autumn leaves, winter snow and spring blossoms, each with a cursor to match)
- Every future theme pack is included in Pro
- A short first-run tour, a Try it here box, and a 10 second preview of each Pro theme before you decide
- Five cursor sizes, eight cursor colors, trail color, trail intensity, cursor style, click effects and particle amount
- Pause Whimsy in any app, or from the menu bar, whenever you like
Made to stay out of the way
Whimsy draws over everything but never blocks a click. It respects Reduce Motion and Increase Contrast, thins its trail in Low Power Mode, and goes quiet when you pause it.
Fair and private
No account and no tracking, and nothing leaves your Mac. Whimsy needs no special permissions and does not read what you type.
On a work Mac
The Mac App Store edition needs no special permissions, so there are no Accessibility or Screen Recording prompts for IT to block. If your Mac is managed, your IT team still controls whether App Store apps can be installed.
Requires macOS 14 or later. Whimsy is in Mac App Store review; this page will link to the store when it is released.
